Bertranou Ruled Out of Sharks Match, Cardiff’s Future Plans Uncertain
In a blow to Cardiff’s lineup, scrum-half Bertranou has been ruled out of this weekend’s match against Sharks, with fly-half Tinus de Beer stepping in to provide cover. While Bertranou may yet recover in time for the final game of the season against Ospreys on June 1st, his future with Cardiff remains uncertain.
The 30-year-old Bertranou joined Cardiff from Dragons in April on a short-term deal until the end of the season, and has yet to agree on a new contract beyond the summer. However, Cardiff’s Head of Rugby Sherratt has praised Bertranou’s impact, describing him as “one of the top professionals” he has worked with, who “maximises every ounce of talent.”
“We still haven’t got absolute clarity on our budget so we are holding off but we’re not late to the party,” Sherratt noted, suggesting that the upcoming World Cup and the changing landscape of the game have contributed to a later recruitment process across all clubs.
