Warr Set for Scotland Debut in Summer Tour

Gus Warr, the Sale Sharks scrum-half, is poised to make his debut for the Scotland national rugby union team during their upcoming summer tour of North and South America. The 24-year-old Manchester-born player has emerged as a key figure for Alex Sanderson’s Sharks in the Gallagher Premiership, establishing himself as the club’s first-choice number 9.

Warr, who has represented both England and Scotland at the under-20 level, is now ready to commit his international career to the Scots. Mail Sport understands he will be named in Gregor Townsend’s squad for Scotland’s matches against Canada, USA, Chile, and Uruguay in July.

Townsend has been in regular conversation with Warr about a senior call-up, as the Scotland head coach is keen to add depth to his squad with players eligible from across the globe.

Warr qualifies for Scotland through his mother, who is from Strathaven, and he has also worn the blue shirt for the country’s under-18 and under-19 teams.

While Scotland’s age-grade system has struggled to produce players, Townsend is now looking to bolster his team with new talent. The Scotland boss is also considering hooker Jack Singleton, who is now eligible to switch countries, as well as fly-half Fergus Burke, who is joining Saracens from the Crusaders, and centre Mosese Tuipulotu, who is moving to Edinburgh.

Scotland’s summer tour includes four matches, beginning with a clash against Canada in Ottawa on July 6, followed by a meeting with the USA in Washington DC on July 12. The team will then head south to face Chile in Santiago and Uruguay in Montevideo on July 20 and 27, respectively. Townsend will be hoping his squad can secure four wins on this eclectic but important tour.
