England’s Expansive Approach Continues in Summer Tour of Japan and New Zealand

Good news for England fans as the team’s tactical liberation during the Six Nations looks set to continue in their upcoming summer tour of Japan and New Zealand. The Red Rose’s decision to abandon their pragmatic approach in favor of a more expansive game plan was a significant break from their long-standing tradition under former coach Eddie Jones.

After a defeat against Scotland that prompted soul-searching, England found their groove, securing a pulsating victory over title favorites Ireland before a narrow loss in France that showcased their newfound fluency and flair under Steve Borthwick. Now, the team is determined to maintain this attacking mindset, much to the delight of the players and spectators alike.

“Veteran center Henry Slade, the longest-serving back in the current squad, acknowledged the team’s recent tactical shift, describing it as a ‘much more enjoyable way to play.'”

Slade highlighted how the players have been encouraged to be “more brave” and get the ball to the team’s “dangerous players” in the outside channels, allowing them to thrive. Ollie Lawrence, Slade’s midfield partner, echoed this sentiment, expressing the squad’s desire to “keep bringing that same intent to the way we play” and utilize the wealth of talent in the back line. With Marcus Smith at the helm, the onus is on the supporting cast to create opportunities for the young fly-half to “come to life” and ignite the England attack.

As the English game seeks to enhance its profile, providing entertaining rugby will be crucial. If Borthwick’s side can maintain the high-tempo, expansive approach they showcased towards the end of the Six Nations, they are sure to win over more admirers, starting with their clash against the pacy Japanese on Saturday.
