Veteran Wallaby Kurtley Beale Ruled Out of Wales Test Series Due to Achilles Injury
Australia’s veteran full-back Kurtley Beale has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against Wales after sustaining a long-term Achilles injury. The 35-year-old, who has earned 95 international caps, picked up the injury while playing for his club side Randwick last weekend. Scans on Monday confirmed a ruptured Achilles, and Beale will now undergo surgery, with the timeline for his return to play yet to be determined.
Beale’s absence is a significant blow for the Wallabies, as the experienced player was recalled by head coach Joe Schmidt for the two-match series against Wales, which is set to commence in Sydney on 6 July, followed by the Melbourne fixture a week later.
Another Setback for the Australians
In another setback for the Australians, center David Feliuai has also been ruled out of this week’s selection due to personal reasons. Feliuai, one of 13 uncapped players initially named in Schmidt’s 38-man squad, trained with the team in Brisbane last week but did not reassemble with the squad in Sydney on Monday. Waratahs and Australia A representative Joey Walton has been called up to replace Feliuai.
“The loss of both Beale and Feliuai will force the Wallabies to make adjustments to their backline as they prepare to take on the visiting Welsh side in the upcoming international fixtures.”
