Cardiff Lock Rory Thornton Pens New Deal for 2024-25 Season
(BBC Sport, 10 April 2023) – Once-capped Wales international Rory Thornton has signed a new contract to stay with Cardiff for the 2024-25 campaign. The 29-year-old lock initially joined the team on loan from Ospreys for the 2018-19 season and has now committed his future to the club.
“Staying at Cardiff and continuing to build on the game time and performances I have enjoyed this year was the best option,” Thornton expressed.
The towering forward has become a vital part of Cardiff’s forward pack, competing for a starting role alongside fellow Wales internationals Teddy Williams and Seb Davies, as well as Ben Donnell.
Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt praised Thornton’s development, stating:
“Rory has made real improvements across his all-round game this season, which we are all really pleased with. He is an excellent set-piece forward, who is offering more and more around the pitch.”
The club has not disclosed the specifics of Thornton’s new contract length. Meanwhile, tight-head prop Ciaran Parker has announced his retirement at the age of 28 after just six appearances for Cardiff following his arrival at the start of the 2023-24 season.
