Cardiff Bolster Roster with Key Signings
In a significant move, Cardiff have announced the addition of center Rory Jennings from Newcastle Falcons. The 28-year-old Jennings, who previously played for London Irish, has signed on with the ambitious Welsh club after spending a season with the Falcons.
Jennings’ arrival follows that of former Newcastle wing Iwan Stephens, who has also joined Cardiff. “Joining Cardiff is a really exciting prospect for me,” Jennings expressed. “It’s a club that has got ambition to improve and be competitive in the United Rugby Championship, and that’s always one of the first things I look for in a club.”
While Jennings primarily operates as a center, his versatility allows him to cover the fly-half position as well. However, Cardiff have already secured the services of Callum Sheedy for the 2024-25 season, who will compete with Tinus de Beer for the number 10 shirt.
“Rory is a player I’ve admired for a long time now,” said Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt. “He is someone who has an attacking mindset and fits the Cardiff game model as an inside center with a triple threat in terms of his run, kick and pass game.”
In addition to Jennings, Cardiff have bolstered their roster with the signings of props Ed Byrne and Danny Southworth, as well as wing Gabriel Hamer-Webb. The club has also secured the long-term commitments of several key players, including Mason Grady, Corey Domachowski, Liam Belcher, and Keiron Assiratti, among others.
However, Cardiff will also bid farewell to several high-profile names, including Wales internationals Tomos Williams, Rhys Carre, Ellis Jenkins, Shane Lewis-Hughes, Owen Lane, and Josh Turnbull, as well as Ciaran Parker, Aled Summerhill, Arwel Robson, Max Clark, Gonzalo Bertranou, Matthew Aubrey, Lopeti Timani, and Willis Halaholo.
