Cardiff Announce Major Player Exits and New Signings Ahead of Next Season
Cardiff Rugby Union Club has revealed a significant shakeup in their squad, with several high-profile departures and new arrivals as they look to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
The most notable exit is that of Welsh international center Willis Halaholo, who will leave the club at the end of the current campaign. However, his longtime center partner Rey Lee-Lo, 38, has not been included in the 14-player leavers list, suggesting Cardiff may seek to retain the experienced Samoan’s services with a new deal.
Joining Halaholo in departing the capital club are number eight Lopeti Timani, wing Aled Summerhill, scrum-halves Gonzalo Bertranou and Matthew Aubrey, and center Max Clark. Additionally, stalwarts Ellis Jenkins, Josh Turnbull, and Ciaran Parker have announced their retirements from the sport.
On the inbound front, Cardiff has secured the signings of fly-half Callum Sheedy, props Ed Byrne and Danny Southworth, and wings Gabriel Hamer-Webb and Iwan Stephens. Former Italy lock Corniel van Zyl has also joined the coaching staff, taking on the role of forwards coach after a stint with Ealing Trailfinders.
The club has also moved to secure the long-term futures of several key players, with Mason Grady, Corey Domachowski, Liam Belcher, Keiron Assiratti, Cameron Winnett, Alex Mann, Mackenzie Martin, Evan Lloyd, Harri Millard, James Botham, Jacob Beetham, and Alun Lawrence all signing new deals. Defense coach Gethin Jenkins has also committed his future to the club.
These developments come as Cardiff prepare for the next chapter of their rugby union journey, with an eye on maintaining their competitiveness in the bbc rugby union and rugby world cup final competitions.
