Cardiff Secure Flanker Dan Thomas from Bristol for 2024-25 Season
Cardiff have bolstered their squad for the 2024-25 season with the signing of experienced flanker Dan Thomas from Bristol. The 30-year-old Welsh international spent seven successful seasons with the Bears, making 144 appearances during his time at Ashton Gate.
“I had a great time at Bristol and hold so many fond memories, but I am now excited to join Cardiff,” said Thomas. “I am a proud Welshman, and the opportunity to return home to Wales with a club like Cardiff was a significant factor in my decision.”
Thomas, who previously came through the Scarlets academy and also had a stint with Gloucester, will compete with fellow Welsh internationals Thomas Young and James Botham for the number seven jersey at Cardiff. His arrival will also provide valuable experience to up-and-coming talents Gwilym Bradley and Lucas de la Rua.
Cardiff Head Coach Pleased with Signing
Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt expressed his delight at securing Thomas’ signature, stating:
“He comes from a good environment and also arrives with a point to prove in Wales. He suits our attacking playing style as a fast and dynamic openside, who is effective on both sides of the ball and has a lot of experience from the Premiership.”
Additional Signings for Cardiff
In addition to Thomas, Cardiff have also bolstered their squad with the signings of former Newcastle duo Ryan Jennings and Iwan Stephens, as well as props Ed Byrne and Danny Southworth, and wing Gabriel Hamer-Webb.
Departures from Cardiff
The Welsh club will be bidding farewell to several key players next season, including Wales internationals Tomos Williams, Rhys Carre, Owen Lane, Ciaran Parker, Aled Summerhill, Arwel Robson, Max Clark, Gonzalo Bertranou, Matthew Aubrey, and Willis Halaholo.
