Dragons Hopeful of Retaining Leon Brown with New Contract

In a positive development for the Dragons, the Welsh regional side is hoping to secure the services of prop Leon Brown for the upcoming season. The 27-year-old tight-head has been a key part of the Dragons’ squad, but his recent playing time has been limited due to various injury concerns.

Brown last featured for the Dragons in the opening game of the Six Nations against Scotland in February, having only played four matches for the side beforehand. Despite being out of contract this summer, the player has not been listed among the Rodney Parade departures, and discussions are ongoing about a new deal.

The Dragons’ head coach, Dai Flanagan, has expressed the team’s desire to retain Brown’s services in the long term. “We see his long-term future with us,” Flanagan stated, acknowledging the player’s recent fitness struggles. “We have taken a long road to make sure we do things right. I am relatively new to dealing with Leon, but he has had a bitty last couple of years, so we just need to make sure that when he does return to playing rugby, hopefully in Gwent, he is fully ready to go.”

Brown is currently sidelined due to what the Dragons have described as a “knock,” having previously dealt with a long-standing neck problem. The plans are for the prop to miss Wales’ upcoming summer program, which includes a match against South Africa at Twickenham on June 22 and a two-Test series against Australia in July.

Flanagan expressed optimism about Brown’s return to full fitness, stating, “That would be the ideal plan and what we are all trying to pursue.” The Dragons are committed to ensuring that the player is fully recovered and prepared to contribute to the team’s success in the future.

“We see his long-term future with us,” Flanagan stated, acknowledging the player’s recent fitness struggles.
