Dragons Seek to Spoil Ospreys’ Play-off Hopes in Welsh Derby
In the build-up to the Welsh derby between Dragons and Ospreys this Saturday in Swansea, Dragons head coach Dai Flanagan has expressed his desire to derail Ospreys’ slim United Rugby Championship (URC) play-off aspirations. Following two heavy defeats against the Bulls and Leinster, Ospreys now find themselves eight points adrift of the top eight play-off places with just two games remaining.
Ospreys’ Slim Play-off Hopes
Toby Booth’s Ospreys side must win their final matches against Dragons and Cardiff, likely earning two bonus points, while also hoping for favorable results elsewhere to keep their play-off hopes alive. However, Flanagan, who was the fly-half when Dragons last won a league match in Swansea back in 2010, is determined to put a dent in Ospreys’ plans.
“I love Toby Booth to bits, and Richard Kelly, Mark Jones and Richard Fussell [Ospreys coaching staff] but it would be nice to upset their plans,” said Flanagan. “It would be nice to upset their play-off plans and that’s our target this week. I am sure that will go up on their dressing room wall, but it is something we can look forward to.”
Dragons’ Mindset
Flanagan acknowledged that his side has “nothing to lose” after last year’s results, and he is eager for his players to seize the opportunity to showcase their abilities on the “fantastic pitch” in Swansea.
