Rugby Union Star Arrested After Incident at Majorca Pub
Palma, Majorca – April 29, 2024: England rugby international Billy Vunipola has been arrested following a violent incident at a pub in the Majorcan capital Palma. The 31-year-old Saracens player had to be tasered twice by police after reports of him threatening customers and staff at the Epic bar.
According to local reports, Vunipola had removed his shirt and was wielding bottles and chairs, prompting security staff to call the authorities. The 6ft 2in, 20-stone professional rugby player was said to be unaffected by the first taser shot, leading police to use it a second time to overpower and handcuff him.
Vunipola was taken to the nearby Son Espases Hospital, where he had to be sedated and bound to his bed until the medication took effect. Several security guards and police officers were required to watch over him during this time.
The rugby union star was later brought before the courts on Sunday, still wearing the same blue t-shirt and beige shorts he had been arrested in. His current whereabouts are unclear, but he is understood to have been released on bail pending an ongoing investigation.
Neither the police nor the court officials have made any official statement regarding the incident. The Epic bar where the altercation took place was also closed early on Monday morning.
Vunipola, who was born in Australia to Tongan parents and moved to the UK as a child, has represented England in rugby union, earning nearly 80 caps since making his debut in 2013. He currently plays as a number eight for Premiership Rugby club Saracens.
