Rugby Union News: England’s Key Duo Ruled Out for Twickenham Clash Against South Africa
England’s preparations for their upcoming clash against South Africa at Twickenham have been dealt a significant blow as Tom Curry and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso have been ruled out due to head injuries sustained during their weekend defeat against Australia.
The pair were withdrawn from the 42-37 loss to the Wallabies, and they will now be unavailable for selection against the Springboks on Saturday. England head coach Steve Borthwick acknowledged the challenging situation, stating,
“There are some painful experiences right now. I don’t want to be stood here saying we’ll learn, because we are desperate to win games.”
With Curry and Feyi-Waboso sidelined, Borthwick will need to consider alternative options. Sam Underhill or Ben Curry could be potential replacements for Curry in the openside flanker role, while Ollie Sleightholme is the leading contender to take over from Feyi-Waboso, unless Freddie Steward or Elliot Daly are called upon.
Despite the injury setbacks, Borthwick remains determined to secure England’s first victory of the Autumn international series.
“While we have been competing with some of the best teams in the world, and the margins are tight, we want wins,” he emphasized.
Borthwick has added Ted Hill and Tom Roebuck to the training squad as he looks to navigate through the challenges and field a competitive team against the South Africans at Twickenham.
