BBC Rugby Union: Exeter Chiefs Complete Stunning Comeback to Down Bath in Champions Cup Last 16

    [Published: 21:41 BST, 6 April 2024 | Updated: 23:36 BST, 6 April 2024]

In a captivating rugby union gameplay, the Exeter Chiefs fought back from a 12-7 half-time deficit to defeat Bath 21-15 in the Champions Cup last 16 clash at Sandy Park on Sunday.

Bath had entered the break with a narrow advantage, but the hosts rallied after the interval to book their spot in the quarter-finals and set up a tantalizing tie against either Toulouse or Racing 92 next weekend.

The turning point came when Scotland’s Finn Russell, a key player for Bath, limped off with a suspected groin injury, depriving the visitors of their playmaking talisman.

“That’s a tough one to take,” admitted Bath head coach Johann van Graan. “Finn going off with what seems to be something in the groin area was a big moment. He’s a very important player.”

Exeter boss Rob Baxter, however, heaped praise on 21-year-old wing Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, describing him as the “closest replacement to a Jack Nowell we could have had” for his inspired performance in sparking the comeback.

Despite Bath’s dominant scrum and maul in the first half, Exeter weathered the storm and fought back in the second period, with Greg Fisilau and Ethan Roots crossing the line to seal a dramatic victory in front of a sell-out 15,000 crowd.

The rugby union scores will show Exeter overturning Bath’s eight-point lead to secure a 21-15 win, setting up an enticing quarter-final clash in the race for the prestigious Champions Cup trophy.
