Experienced Forward Hobbs Joins Dragons’ Coaching Team for 2024-25 Season
The Dragons have announced that former prop Sam Hobbs will be taking over the forwards coaching duties from Mefin Davies and Luke Narraway for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Hobbs, who has previously played 42 games for the Dragons between 2016 and 2018, will be joining the coaching staff led by Dai Flanagan, which includes defense coach Filo Tiatia and backs coach Matt O’Brien.
Hobbs’ Coaching Experience
The 36-year-old Hobbs has accumulated extensive experience in coaching, having previously served as the academy head coach and working within the Dragons’ senior setup this past season. Additionally, he has held roles with Newport RFC and the Wales Under-20 national team.
Rebuilding After a Challenging Season
The announcement comes as the Dragons look to bounce back from a challenging 2023-24 campaign, where they finished 15th out of 16 teams in the United Rugby Championship, securing only three wins out of their 18 matches. The team also faced disappointment in the European Challenge Cup, losing three of their four games.
“The addition of Hobbs to the coaching staff is expected to provide a fresh perspective and bolster the team’s forward play as they strive to improve their performance in the upcoming season.”
