Gloucester Fly-half Lloyd Evans Departs for United Rugby Championship Club
In a move that will impact the Gloucester Rugby ranks, fly-half Lloyd Evans has announced his departure from the club. The 28-year-old, who is also capable of playing at full-back, was a product of Gloucester’s academy and has made close to 100 senior appearances for the Cherry and Whites over the years.
Last season, Evans featured in 11 matches for Gloucester, including the triumphant Premiership Rugby Cup final against Leicester. However, the talented playmaker has decided to seek more consistent playing time and has signed with an unnamed United Rugby Championship club.
Gloucester director of rugby, George Skivington, expressed his appreciation for Evans’ commitment and versatility, stating, “> Lloyd’s been around the club for a long time, and I’ve always appreciated his commitment and willingness to turn out wherever necessary for the team.”
Skivington went on to explain that Gloucester’s fly-half and full-back positions are well-stocked for the upcoming season, with the likes of Santi Carreras, Gareth Anscombe, Charlie Atkinson, and George Barton all capable of covering both roles. As a result, the decision for Evans to pursue a new opportunity makes “a lot of sense” for the player and the club.
The departure of Lloyd Evans marks the end of an era for the Gloucester-born player, who has been a loyal servant to the club throughout his career. Fans will undoubtedly wish him well in his next chapter as he embarks on a new challenge in the United Rugby Championship.
