Scarlets Sign Promising Prop Harri O’Connor to New Contract

Harri O’Connor’s Meteoric Rise in Welsh Rugby

Harri O’Connor, the dynamic 23-year-old prop, has etched his name in Welsh rugby history by signing a fresh contract with the Scarlets. O’Connor, who made his senior Scarlets debut in 2020, has amassed an impressive 36 appearances for the club, with 15 of those coming in the ongoing 2023-2024 season, as reported by BBC Rugby Union on [date].

The young talent received his first taste of international rugby in November 2023, appearing in Wales’ uncapped fixture against the Barbarians. His meteoric rise continued when he made his Test debut for Wales, coming off the bench against Italy in a nail-biting Six Nations match.

“These past few years have been nothing short of incredible for me. From my senior Scarlets debut alongside my brother, touring with Wales, to winning my first Test cap โ€“ it has been a dream come true, an unforgettable experience that I’m still trying to absorb.”

He also took a moment to recognize his family’s sacrifices:

“My family has invested so much in my career and I will forever be grateful for their unwavering support. Winning that first cap was a proud moment not just for me, but for all of us. Now, my focus is on continuing to grow as a player, playing regularly for the Scarlets, and adding to that single cap.”

Scarlets Secure Futures of Additional Young Talents

Additionally, the Scarlets have secured the futures of Tom Rogers, Dan Davis, and Ben Williams by announcing their contract extensions. The excitement only escalates with the signing of Toyota Cheetahs hooker Marnus van der Merwe for the 2024-2025 season.

Scarlets head coach, Dwayne Peel, was brimming with pride for O’Connor:

“Seeing Harri earn his first cap during the Six Nations was truly gratifying. As a young prop, he is still honing his skills, and is one of many promising front-rowers at our club. Players like Harri are going to play a vital role in shaping the Scarlets’ future, and we’re thrilled to have them commit to our vision.”

In summary, Harri O’Connor’s journey to earning his first Wales cap, and the Scarlets’ commitment to nurturing young talents, has set the stage for an exhilarating future in Welsh rugby. With their unwavering passion and dedication, the Scarlets seem poised for even greater achievements in the URC and beyond.
