Exeter’s Immanuel Feyi-Waboso Emerges as England Rugby Union Star After Breakout Season

In a remarkable turn of events, 21-year-old Immanuel Feyi-Waboso has rapidly risen to become a regular fixture in the England national rugby union team, despite making just three Premiership appearances prior to this season. Exeter boss Rob Baxter has hailed the young winger’s impact, describing him as the “closest replacement to a Jack Nowell that we probably could have got.”

Feyi-Waboso’s talent was on full display during Exeter’s recent Champions Cup victory over Bath, where he played a pivotal role in the Chiefs’ two second-half tries, helping them overcome a 12-7 half-time deficit to secure a 21-15 win and a spot in the quarter-finals.

“He’s just gets you metres out of nowhere and is getting better at it,” Baxter told BBC Radio Devon, highlighting Feyi-Waboso’s ability to generate momentum and create opportunities for his team through his elusive running and attacking flair.

The former Wales youngster, who opted to represent England at the international level, featured in four of his country’s five Six Nations matches earlier this year, showcasing his rapid rise in the rugby union gameplay.

Feyi-Waboso joined Exeter after Wasps’ financial collapse last season, and his breakout campaign with the club has been nothing short of remarkable. Baxter praised the young winger’s talent, noting that “at least two of our tries came from just momentum that he gained, almost on his own at times, when he probably didn’t deserve to get momentum.”

The victory over Bath comes on the heels of a challenging period for Exeter, who suffered a heavy 41-5 loss at Sale and a defeat against Saracens prior to the Six Nations. However, Baxter was pleased with the resilience shown by his pack of forwards, who stood up to the challenge and helped secure the win.

As the rugby union season continues, all eyes will be on Feyi-Waboso and the England national rugby union team, with fans eager to see the young star continue his meteoric rise in the sport. The bbc rugby union coverage will undoubtedly follow his progress closely, as the rugby union community celebrates the emergence of a new talent set to shape the future of the game.
