BBC Rugby Union News: Plumtree’s Return Aims to Revive Scarlets’ Fortunes
(Swansea, Wales) – Scarlets flanker Jac Plumtree is eager to make an impact upon his return to the field, hoping to help turn around his struggling team’s fortunes as they face a crucial match this weekend.
Plumtree, born in Swansea, spent the first three years of his life in the Welsh city, where his father John – a former South Africa sevens international – coached the local club Swansea RFC. The younger Plumtree acknowledges the significant role his father has played in his rugby journey, providing guidance and feedback even as he takes on a new role as Sharks head coach.
“Dad’s always been a sort of that pillar in the background that’s always helped me out with my rugby stuff throughout my career and he still does,” Plumtree commented. “Before that we’d always catch up on a Sunday and he would give me a couple pointers on what he thinks I did well and what he thinks I could do better, and that won’t change this weekend either.”
The 25-year-old flanker is eager to make his mark on the pitch, especially after a five-month absence due to injury. “The five months did go quick,” he added. “I’ve missed a lot of rugby in that time and I’m just stoked that I’m back now and I’m feeling good, and I’ve got another five games left of the season.”
Plumtree is hopeful that his return can coincide with an upturn in fortunes for the struggling Scarlets, who have only managed three league wins so far this season. “Winning is always really good for the team environment. If we can, we can pull together some performances that we’re proud of.”
As the Scarlets prepare to face their opponents this Friday, Plumtree’s energy and determination will be a welcome boost as the team seeks to turn their season around.
