Kevin Sinfield Sets Sights on Fifth MND Fundraising Challenge
Rugby league legend Kevin Sinfield has announced plans for his fifth fundraising challenge in support of motor neurone disease (MND) charities. Starting in December, Sinfield will embark on a grueling seven-day ultramarathon across seven different cities in the United Kingdom.
The former Leeds Rhinos captain, who was awarded a CBE by Prince William earlier this year alongside his MND-stricken friend Rob Burrow, revealed he has invited the future King to join him on the upcoming endeavor. “He’s more than welcome to join us at any point!” Sinfield exclaimed.
Ambitious Seven-Day Ultramarathon
Sinfield’s latest fundraising effort will kick off in Liverpool on December 1st, before taking him to locations across Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. The 43-year-old will then return to England, finishing his challenge in his hometown of Saddleworth on December 7th.
Each day, Sinfield will cover over 30 miles, breaking the ultramarathons into seven-kilometer segments – a nod to Burrow’s former Rhinos shirt number. This marks the second time Sinfield has undertaken the “7 in 7 in 7” feat, having successfully completed the grueling challenge last year.
“When you are passionate about something, it’s really easy to go again,” Sinfield expressed. “To see the fight in Rob and the inspiration he has given so many people across the UK, it has been incredible to be a part of. We will run at least 50km a day in a variety of cities across the UK and bang that drum for MND.”
Ongoing Fundraising Efforts
Since Burrow’s MND diagnosis in 2019, Sinfield has already raised over ยฃ15 million for various charities supporting those affected by the debilitating disease. The former England rugby union assistant coach has no plans to slow down, stating, “We will run at least 50km a day in a variety of cities across the UK and bang that drum for MND.”
