Llandaff North Triumphs in Emphatic Welsh Rugby Union National Women’s Cup Victory
Llandaff North, a Cardiff-based rugby union team, claimed an emphatic 85-14 victory over Seven Sisters to secure the Welsh Rugby Union National Women’s Cup at the Principality Stadium on Saturday. This triumph marked the team’s second cup win in the past three years.
The match was part of a day of Welsh rugby union finals held at the home of Welsh rugby, following Wales’ Six Nations triumph over Italy earlier that day. Llandaff North dominated the proceedings, leading 52-0 at half-time, and despite a determined effort from Seven Sisters, they cruised to a comprehensive victory, scoring 13 tries.
In the National Women’s Plate final, Bonymaen claimed a 32-26 success over Haverfordwest. The Swansea-based club led 29-12 after an hour, but Haverfordwest, the winners of last year’s National Women’s Bowl final, fought back to narrow the gap to just three points. A late penalty from Bonymaen’s Lily Roberts, however, sealed the victory for the victors.
The National Women’s Bowl final saw Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd defeat Old Penarthians 34-21. The Cardiff-based club, having narrowly lost to Haverfordwest in last year’s final, emerged victorious this time, scoring five tries. It was a particularly memorable day for Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd’s Anwen Hopkins, who was part of the winning team and watched her daughter Gwennan help Wales to victory over Italy earlier in the day.
