Northampton Saints Legend Courtney Lawes to Join CA Brive After 17-Year Tenure
Veteran second-row Courtney Lawes will play his final match for Northampton Saints in the upcoming Premiership final against Bath, before departing the club to join French side CA Brive. The 35-year-old has been a stalwart for the Saints since joining in 2007, and coach Phil Dowson has heaped praise on Lawes’ unwavering authenticity and leadership heading into his farewell fixture.
“He’s an old dog now but Courtney’s been exactly the same from the first week I met him,” Dowson said. “One of the great things about Courtney is he’s unflappable and incredibly authentic. Not much changes Courtney’s demeanour or attitude and he’s one of the guys who really grounds and anchors us as a squad because he’s been in those big games before.”
Lawes will be joined by fellow club legends Alex Waller and Lewis Ludlam in bidding farewell to Northampton after the Premiership final at Twickenham. Scrum-half Alex Mitchell acknowledged the emotional significance of the occasion, stating:
“We have had a lot of emotion the last couple of weeks about it. Last week was huge because if we lost that was it. We wanted to earn one more week with the boys which we have done. We want to send them off with some silverware, some legends of the club.”
As Northampton Saints prepare to close the chapter on Lawes’ illustrious 17-year tenure, the team is determined to deliver a fitting send-off by clinching the Premiership title in his final outing for the club.
