BBC Rugby Union: Ospreys Hooker Dewi Lake Eager to Bounce Back After Injury Setback
Ospreys hooker Dewi Lake is determined to regain his form despite two heavy defeats since returning from a three-month injury layoff. The 24-year-old Wales international suffered a hamstring rupture prior to this year’s Six Nations, sidelining him for the tournament.
“It’s been a tough year injury-wise, but it is part and parcel of the game,” said Lake. “It’s about coming back fit and strong and getting back into the swing of things.”
Lake made his return to action in South Africa, where Ospreys were defeated 61-24 by the Bulls. He then featured in last weekend’s 61-14 loss against Leinster, severely denting his side’s hopes of finishing in the United Rugby Championship (URC) top eight and reaching the playoffs.
Reflecting on the setbacks, Lake remained upbeat, stating: “It’s been a joy to be back on the field.” He emphasized the importance of taking each game one at a time, with Ospreys facing a crucial Welsh derby against the Dragons this Saturday, followed by their final regular-season match against Cardiff on June 1.
Despite the recent losses, Lake is confident in his team’s home form, noting, “I don’t think many teams have come to Swansea.com [Stadium] and turned us over.”
While the focus remains on Ospreys’ end-of-season push, Lake is also eyeing a potential return to the Wales setup for the upcoming summer tour. The hooker was co-captain with Ospreys teammate Jac Morgan for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, and he is determined to earn his place in Warren Gatland’s squad.
“I’ve got to play well in this [Ospreys] jersey first and earn the right to hopefully wear the Welsh jersey again,” Lake said.
