BBC Rugby Union: Ospreys Prepare for European Challenge Cup Quarter-Final against Gloucester
Published: 11 April 2023
The Ospreys rugby union team is gearing up for a crucial European Challenge Cup quarter-final clash against Gloucester on Friday, 12 April. As the only Welsh side remaining in the European knockout stages, the Ospreys will be looking to secure a spot in the next round of the competition.
Despite the absence of long-term injured players George North and Alex Cuthbert, the Ospreys have received a boost with the impending return of hooker Sam Parry. The Welsh international, who missed the last-16 win against Sale, is now in contention for selection after overcoming a hamstring problem, according to head coach Toby Booth.
“He looks like he’s got through, he’s trained, which is good,” said Booth, referring to Parry’s recovery.
Meanwhile, lock Rhys Davies, another Wales international, is set to miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. However, the Ospreys will be bolstered by the return of Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake, their 2023 Rugby World Cup co-captains, who are expected to travel to South Africa for the upcoming United Rugby Championship (URC) fixtures against the Stormers and Bulls.
The Ospreys’ partnership with South African side Cheetahs continues, with four players – Tristan Davies, Lewis Jones, Will Hickey, and Cameron Jones – linking up with the Cheetahs on a short-term loan basis to participate in the SA Cup.
As the only “bbc rugby union” team from Wales still involved in the European knockout stages, the Ospreys will be looking to make the most of their opportunity and secure a spot in the next round of the “rugby union” competition. With a blend of experienced internationals and returning stars, the Ospreys will be aiming to put on a strong performance against Gloucester and keep the “rugby union news” alive for Welsh fans.
