Ospreys Explore Stadium Options for Long-Term Future
The Ospreys rugby union team are planning for a long-term future, having this week confirmed their intention to move from the Swansea.com Stadium to a new home ground. The options under consideration are either St Helen’s in Swansea or the Brewery Field in Bridgend, with a target of completing the relocation by the start of the 2025-26 season.
Ospreys chief executive Nick Bradley acknowledged that a final decision must be made “reasonably quickly” by the club’s board. He is currently compiling a list of pros and cons for both potential sites, with a recommendation to follow.
“The Brewery Field has existing facilities that need upgrading, while St Helen’s has a terrace and a stand, but we would need to realign the pitch and install new stands,” explained Bradley. “The costs are slightly higher for St Helen’s, but the non-matchday opportunities there are probably greater.”
Crucially, neither option would involve public funding, as the Ospreys are exploring investment or loan options to finance the stadium move. Bradley stressed that fan input will be a major consideration, and he is also consulting with players, coaches, and staff.
The Ospreys have already held two successful matches at the Brewery Field this season, recording a United Rugby Championship win against Cardiff on 1 January and a Challenge Cup victory over Sale in April. Bradley suggested the initial capacity could be around 8,000, with the potential to expand to 12,000 if demand requires it.
“We know we currently have more fans in Swansea than Bridgend, but we don’t know if moving to the Brewery Field would generate new supporters in Bridgend,” said Bradley. “The atmosphere for the recent games there was fantastic, which I suspect was due to the more compact stadium and large terrace, allowing fans to feel the emotion of the matches.”
With both options presenting unique advantages, the Ospreys are committed to carefully considering their long-term home and ensuring it delivers the best possible experience for their loyal fanbase.
