Principality Stadium Set to Host Record-Breaking Women’s Six Nations Finale

The Welsh national rugby team will face Italy in the climactic match of the Women’s Six Nations tournament at the Principality Stadium on Saturday. With nearly 10,000 tickets sold, the fixture is poised to set a new record for attendance at a standalone women’s Test match, surpassing the previous high of 8,500 set when Wales hosted England last year.

Wales, led by captain Hannah Jones, will be determined to secure their first victory of the campaign after a disappointing run of seven successive losses. The team’s last taste of success came against the USA in a friendly last summer, and Jones has urged the passionate Welsh supporters to rally behind the squad during these “tough times.”

Head coach Ioan Cunningham emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating that it will be a “celebration of rugby for women and girls in Wales.” However, he has made it clear that the sole focus is on securing a bonus-point win against Italy, the minimum requirement to avoid finishing last in the tournament.

“We have to win, it’s as simple as that,” Cunningham said. “We’ve had a short turnaround from the France game, and it’s all about how we can win one game of rugby. That’s what we’ve discussed as a team, and hopefully, we can put it on the pitch on Saturday.”

The Principality Stadium, with its capacity of 74,500, is set to provide an electrifying atmosphere as the Welsh women’s team takes the field in front of a record-breaking crowd. This landmark event reflects the growing momentum and interest in women’s rugby, and the Welsh team will be eager to deliver a performance that captivates the devoted supporters.
