RFU Council Members Reprimanded for Misconduct at Twickenham
The Rugby Football Union (RFU) Council members have been given a stern warning for their behavior during the recent autumn series at Twickenham. In an email from RFU President Rob Udwin, the council members were admonished for various incidents, including guests attempting to use other members’ accreditation to gain unauthorized access, disrespecting the trophy presentation, and unruly behavior on the bus back to their hotel.
The RFU Council, often referred to as the “old farts” by former England captain Will Carling, is a 62-member body that enjoys privileged access to tickets, hospitality, and other benefits. However, their recent conduct has drawn criticism, prompting proposals to cut the council’s hospitality budget, including reducing the number of overseas trips they are entitled to.
“This is not the first time the RFU Council has faced scrutiny. Last year, a council member was banned from Twickenham for making racist remarks towards a black volunteer during the World Cup warm-up campaign.”
In other news, Saracens’ General Manager Phil Morrow was denied a role with the England team, despite coach Steve Borthwick’s attempts to bring him on board. Morrow was, however, a guest at the England training session this week, where he had the opportunity to catch up with Borthwick.
Additionally, the sensational debut of code-switcher Joseph Sua’ali’i in Australia’s victory over England has made headlines around the world. Eddie Jones, the former England coach, had previously shown strong interest in bringing rugby league star Harry Newman into the England setup.
Young Players in Focus
- Asher Opoku-Fordjour has been training with England’s senior team this week, but he is still expected to feature for the A-team in their match against Australia on Sunday.
- Matt Everard, Leicester Tigers’ defense coach, was spotted at a Wallabies training session as they prepare to face Wales.
Wallabies’ Post-Match Activities
The Wallabies, after their famous victory over England, took a break for a round of golf at the Celtic Manor, which hosted the 2010 Ryder Cup. However, they are not staying at the course’s adjacent hotel, unlike the Irish team, who are accommodated at the nearby Hilton.
