Rugby Union Star Jonny Hill Banned for Misconduct
Sale, England, and British & Irish Lions lock Jonny Hill has been handed a 10-week suspension by the RFU (Rugby Football Union) after an incident involving a Bath supporter during his club’s playoff defeat in June.
The disciplinary panel concluded that Hill’s actions amounted to “conduct prejudicial to the interests of the game.” While the initial recommendation was a 20-week ban, the panel ultimately reduced the sentence to 10 weeks, with 4 of those suspended until the end of the 2025/26 season.
In addition to the ban, Hill has been tasked with delivering a presentation to young players at his club, which will be recorded and provided to the RFU.
The incident occurred on June 1 at The Recreation Ground, where Hill clashed with a member of the home crowd following Sale’s defeat to Bath. The England international accepted the charge brought against him.
Commenting on the ruling, both Jonny Hill and his club, Sale, have accepted the decision of the RFU disciplinary panel. The team is now looking forward to welcoming the lock back on the pitch when his ban expires on December 7, in time for the start of their European Champions Cup campaign against Glasgow.
