Key Players Departing Scarlets Rugby Club
As the Scarlets’ season comes to a close, the Welsh club has announced that several key players, including international stars, will be leaving the team.
Wyn Jones and Scott Williams
Wyn Jones, a 32-year-old prop who has been a mainstay for the Scarlets, playing 136 games for the club since his debut in 2014, will be departing. Jones has also earned 48 caps for the Wales national team and was a Test starter for the British and Irish Lions during their 2021 tour of South Africa. Joining Jones in his exit is fellow Scarlets stalwart, centre Scott Williams, who has made 161 appearances for the club. Williams and Jones were part of the Scarlets side that secured the PRO12 title in 2017 with a victory over Munster in Dublin.
Other Notable Departures
Other notable departures include fly-half Dan Jones and wing Ryan Conbeer. Earlier this week, centre Jonathan Davies revealed that he too will be leaving the Scarlets, while full-back Johnny McNicholl has already returned to New Zealand to join the Crusaders. In the last few months, hooker Ken Owens and prop Samson Lee have announced their retirements, while scrum-half Kieran Hardy and prop Steff Thomas will be joining the Ospreys for the next season.
Departing Academy Members
The list of players leaving Parc y Scarlets also includes flanker Iwan Shenton, hooker Eduan Swart, prop Joe Jones, and academy members Lewis Morgan, Luca Giannini, Callum Williams, and Iestyn Gwilliam.
However, Wales centre Johnny Williams, who is out of contract at the end of the season, and Tonga forward Vaea Fifita, who has a year left on his current deal, are not included in the departure list, as negotiations are still ongoing with other members of the squad.
Supporters will have the opportunity to bid farewell to the departing Scarlets players following the team’s United Rugby Championship home match against Ulster on Saturday, 15 May.
