Scarlets Bolster Front Row with Experienced Scotland Prop Signing
In a major coup, Scarlets have announced the signing of seasoned Scotland prop Alec Hepburn from Exeter Chiefs for the upcoming season. The 31-year-old Australian-born forward, who helped Exeter clinch the European Champions Cup in 2020 and reach six consecutive English Premiership finals, will bring a wealth of international experience to the Welsh club.
Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel expressed his delight at securing Hepburn’s services, stating:
“He is an international forward who brings a huge amount of experience at club level and someone who will strengthen our front-row resources and help develop an exciting young group of Welsh prop forwards coming through at the club.”
Peel highlighted Hepburn’s reputation as a powerful scrummager and dynamic ball-carrier, noting that his skill set aligns perfectly with the way the Scarlets aim to play the game.
Prior to switching his international allegiance to Scotland for the 2024 Six Nations, Hepburn earned six caps for England. In his final season with Exeter, he played a crucial role in the team’s run to the European title and Premiership finals.
Reflecting on his move, Hepburn said:
“After nearly 10 years playing at Exeter Chiefs, I feel the time has come for a new challenge. Signing for the Scarlets is an exciting opportunity to try and prove myself in a different league, against different teams and players alike.”
The experienced prop is poised to make a significant impact as the Scarlets look to build on their recent successes and challenge for top honors in the coming season.
