Scarlets wing Tomi Lewis Facing Lengthy Spell on Sidelines After Achilles Injury
In a significant setback for the Scarlets, young wing Tomi Lewis is expected to be sidelined for around nine months after suffering a ruptured Achilles during last Saturday’s victory over the Dragons. The 25-year-old, who had been in impressive form for the Scarlets, scored two tries against the Dragons before limping off the field in the second half at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel expressed his disappointment over the injury, suggesting that the uncapped Lewis had been in contention for Wales’ upcoming summer tour of Australia before the unfortunate incident. “He was excellent against the Dragons and I said to our analyst on about 45 minutes ‘Tomi is playing himself on the tour here’,” Peel revealed.
“But the future is bright for him and he will come back stronger.”
The Scarlets academy product had rejoined the region in 2023 after a brief spell with Jersey Reds in 2022.
This news will be a blow to the Scarlets as they look to build on their recent success, but the team and its supporters will no doubt rally behind Lewis as he embarks on his recovery journey. The young winger’s impressive performances had caught the attention of the national selectors, and his return to the pitch will be eagerly anticipated by rugby union enthusiasts.
