Scotland Could Witness Tuipulotu Brothers Pairing Up in Rugby Union
The Scottish rugby union scene is abuzz with the prospect of the Tuipulotu brothers, Sione and Mosese, potentially forming the national team’s centre pairing in the near future. Glasgow Warriors’ Sione, 27, has already established himself as a pivotal figure for head coach Gregor Townsend, thanks to his powerful and influential play in midfield.
Now, it appears that Sione’s younger sibling, 22-year-old Mosese, is set to join the rival club Edinburgh Rugby, further fueling the possibility of a Tuipulotu brothers partnership for Scotland. Mosese, also a centre, has been a long-time target for Townsend, who has previously spoken directly to the player about his potential role in the national squad.
The Tuipulotu brothers were born in Australia but are eligible to play for Scotland through their grandmother, who was born in Greenock.
Mosese, who has been with the New South Wales Waratahs, had previously expressed a desire to represent the Wallabies at the international level. However, it now seems that he has had a change of heart and is poised to don the blue shirt of Edinburgh in the United Rugby Championship, paving the way for a potential Scotland call-up.
During the last Six Nations campaign, Sione showcased his chemistry with Scotland captain Finn Russell, forming a productive centre partnership. The addition of Mosese to the national setup would further strengthen Scotland’s midfield options, with the prospect of the ‘Huwipulotu’ pairing potentially evolving into the ‘Tuipulotu brothers’ combination.
This potential sibling duo would continue a recent trend of siblings representing Scotland, following in the footsteps of Richie and Jonny Gray, Zander and Matt Fagerson, and George and Peter Horne.
