Returning Home for Crucial Benetton Clash After Grueling Road Stretch
After four consecutive away matches, Ulster will be glad to be back home as they prepare to host Benetton next Friday. Head coach Dan Murphy acknowledges that the extended time on the road has taken a toll on his squad, but he’s hopeful they can use the upcoming seven-day turnaround to their advantage.
“We obviously had a lot of rotation in our squad this week through injury and general tiredness out of the group,” Murphy said. “With that, off a six-day turnaround, it makes it difficult to get the continuity within the team. We’re now back into a seven-day turnaround and have Monday, Tuesday together, and we’ll get more work done after two days off. We’ll be ready for Benetton.”
The match against Benetton will provide Ulster with an opportunity to build on the improvements they’ve been working on during the recent string of away fixtures. However, they were dealt a blow when centre James Hume had to be carried off the field in the first half of their latest outing.
“We’ll have to wait for a scan,” Murphy added. “He seemed to think it wasn’t as bad as it probably looked initially, but we’ll have to wait until Monday.”
Despite the setbacks, the Ulster boss is confident that the extra time at home will allow his team to sharpen their focus and be well-prepared for the challenge of Benetton. After a demanding period on the road, the homecoming will be a welcome respite as they look to continue their progress.
