Wales National Rugby Union Team Bolsters Squad for South Africa and Australia Tour
In a significant move, Cardiff flanker James Botham has been added to the Wales men’s national rugby union team’s training squad for their upcoming match against South Africa and the subsequent tour of Australia.
Botham, a 26-year-old versatile forward, last represented Wales during the 2024 Six Nations tournament, where he featured in the opening defeat against Ireland in Cardiff before sustaining a knee injury. His inclusion in the expanded 38-player squad takes the team one step closer to finalizing the 34-man roster that will travel to face the Wallabies.

Wales will first take on South Africa in an away fixture on 22 June at Twickenham, before heading to Australia for a two-Test series against the home side and a match against the Queensland Reds. Notably, the Wales-based players from English clubs will be unavailable for the Springboks clash due to the fixture falling outside the World Rugby international window.
The squad announcement features a strong mix of veteran and up-and-coming talent, with several notable names from the domestic rugby union landscape in Wales and across the United Kingdom. As the team prepares for the challenges ahead, the inclusion of James Botham adds further depth and experience to their forward pack, bolstering their chances of success on the international stage.
