Wales National Rugby Union Team Player Gwen Crabb Faces Injury Setback After Recent Return

In a disappointing turn of events for the Wales national rugby union team, second-row player Gwen Crabb is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines just weeks after making her return from a long-term injury. Crabb, who has earned 29 caps for Wales, had returned to action for Gloucester-Hartpury in February this year and was subsequently named in Wales’ 2024 Six Nations squad.

    Crabb Sustains Another Knee Injury

However, the experienced lock sustained another knee injury last month and has since undergone additional surgery. Crabb has been candid about her rehabilitation journey, sharing on social media that this was her third surgery in the past 18 months, though she remains optimistic, stating, “third time’s a charm.“

“Not what I anticipated, but dealing with a spanner in the works is kind of becoming my thing,” Crabb said in her social media post.

Head Coach Confident in Crabb’s Recovery

Wales head coach Ioan Cunningham acknowledged the setback, confirming that Crabb will be sidelined for several weeks. However, Cunningham expressed confidence in Crabb’s ability to bounce back stronger, stating, “She has come back before so she knows what to do. She is a super-strong person and I’m sure she’ll be fine, and the support around her will be first class.“

Blow to Wales’ Six Nations Hopes

This injury news comes as a blow to the Wales national rugby union team, who were hoping to have their experienced second-row available for the upcoming Six Nations championship. Crabb’s resilience and determination to overcome these challenges will be crucial as she embarks on her latest rehabilitation journey, with the ultimate goal of returning to the pitch and solidifying her place in the Welsh lineup.
