Keira Bevan Scores Off Bench as Wales Face Ireland in Six Nations

    Published: 13 April 2023

Keira Bevan, the Wales scrum-half, returns to the starting lineup for the Wales national rugby union team’s Six Nations clash against Ireland on Saturday. Bevan had previously been dropped to the bench for the match against England, but came on as a substitute and scored a try in the second half.

In addition to Bevan’s return to the starting XV, Wales have made four changes to their squad for the journey to Cork. Wing Jasmine Joyce is back after a late withdrawal prior to the England game, while flanker Alisha Butchers and prop Sisilia Tuipulotu also reclaim their starting roles. Number eight Gwennan Hopkins is set to earn her international debut from the bench.

Currently sitting at the bottom of the Six Nations table, a bonus-point victory for Wales in this “rugby union news” encounter could potentially propel them to third place by the end of the weekend’s fixtures. Loose-head prop Gwenllian Pyrs and hooker Carys Phillips retain their starting positions, with Kelsey Jones still recovering from a calf strain sustained in the opening round against Scotland.

The Welsh pack will see Abbie Fleming and Georgia Evans as the lock pairing, with Butchers joining Bethan Lewis and Alex Callender in the back row. Bevan will partner Lleucu George in the half-backs, while captain Hannah Jones and Kerin Lake form the midfield. Jasmine Joyce, Carys Cox, and Jenny Hesketh make up the back three.

“This rugby union clash between Wales and Ireland is set to be broadcast live on BBC One Wales, BBC iPlayer, and online, with radio coverage available on BBC Radio Wales and Radio Cymru. Fans can also follow the action through text commentary, highlights, and a full report on the BBC Sport website and app.”
