BBC Rugby Union News: Wallabies Shake Up Lineup for Wales Clash

Cross-code sensation Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii has been given a breather after his standout Wallabies debut, with coach Joe Schmidt opting to start the 21-year-old on the bench for Australia’s test against Wales in Cardiff.

“It was a whirlwind for Joseph the last two weeks,” explained the Wallabies boss. “Anyone who plays all consecutive tests against the caliber of opposition we’re facing, that’s a big challenge, especially playing the full 80 minutes.”

Instead, Schmidt has turned to experience, drafting in stalwarts Will Skelton, Samu Kerevi, Allan Alaalatoa, and Nic White to bolster the starting lineup. Kerevi will win his 50th cap, slotting in at inside center, while towering lock Skelton returns to the second row. Alaalatoa replaces the injured Taniela Tupou at prop, and Nic White partners flyhalf Bernard Foley in the halves.

Elsewhere, Max Jorgensen earns a start on the wing after his dramatic, last-gasp try sealed the win over England, while Rob Valetini takes Harry Wilson’s place at number eight and Seru Uru gets the nod at blindside flanker.

Despite the raft of changes, Schmidt remains optimistic about maintaining the momentum from the Twickenham triumph. “I’m concerned, and I’m hopefully confident in that I know the guys coming in will be fully committed to doing the job and connecting with the guys who did the job last week,” he said.

The Wallabies will be heavy favorites against a struggling Wales side, who are at risk of extending their losing streak to a record 11 tests.
