Wallabies Host Wales in Anticipated Clash
After a lengthy absence from the international stage, the Australia Wallabies are set to host the Wales national rugby union team in a highly anticipated series. The Wallabies, who were eliminated in the group stage of the 2023 World Cup in France, have undergone a coaching change, with Joe Schmidt replacing Eddie Jones at the helm.
The visitors, currently ranked ninth in the world, one place above the Wallabies, are considered underdogs for the upcoming matches. However, Wales defense coach Mike Forshaw believes his team is ready to compete and secure a long-awaited victory on Australian soil.
“We will take that [underdog] tag,” Forshaw said. “It is a long time since Wales won here, and it’s a different challenge playing the Wallabies in Australia. We are looking forward to it, we are going to be competitive, and we want to win the game.”
The bookmakers seem to agree with the assessment, with the hosts favored to come out on top. However, Dragons wing Dyer, 24, remains confident in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion.
“They have the home advantage, they’re the ones who are probably the favorites at the moment,” Dyer said. “For us, it’s about going out in a new destination and enjoying the occasion and the moments to come.”
Forshaw believes a victory in the series could be the catalyst for a long-term Wales revival, as the team continues its journey towards regaining its place among the elite in the rugby union world.
“We are on that journey at the moment,” Forshaw said. “We are probably not there yet, but hopefully by the end of this tour, we will have taken some steps. We are in the business of winning rugby matches, and we need to start doing that. As soon as that starts happening, and it will, I am confident we can go upwards over the next 12 months.”
