Wales Teams Unveil New Kits for Upcoming Season
In a groundbreaking move, the Welsh national rugby teams will don distinct kits for the upcoming season, a decision made in consultation with the women’s squad to address period anxiety concerns.
The Wales women’s team, led by captain Hannah Jones, will don the traditional red shirt, but with a twist โ they will now wear red shorts and white socks. Meanwhile, the men’s squad will don red shirts, white shorts, and red socks.
Additionally, Wales have opted to revive a white alternate jersey, which was last seen during the 2004-05 season. This decision aligns with rugby’s efforts to minimize kit clashes that can hinder the viewing experience for supporters with color vision deficiencies.
“Wearing the red jersey is always a proud and special moment, knowing you are representing the nation, our families and friends, the players who have gone before and the Welsh supporters,” said center Hannah Jones. “Being the first national side to wear the new kit for our Test matches against Scotland and Australia in September, ahead of WXV2 in South Africa, is an honor and an exciting prospect.”
The new home kit will make its debut when the Wales women’s team faces Australia at Rodney Parade, Newport, in their second WXV2 warm-up match on Friday, 20 September. Jones and her teammates will also be the first to showcase the alternate kit in their initial WXV2 warm-up match against Scotland on Friday, 6 September.
The introduction of these distinct kits reflects the Welsh Rugby Union’s commitment to addressing the concerns of their female athletes and aligning with the sport’s ongoing efforts to enhance the viewing experience for all fans.
