Young Fly-half Will Reed Commits Future to Dragons
Promising Player Extends Stay with Dragons
Promising fly-half Will Reed has become the latest player to extend his stay with the Dragons, signing a new contract that will see him remain with the east Wales region through the 2024-25 season.
The 22-year-old, a product of the Dragons academy, has made a significant impact since his debut in March 2022, amassing an impressive 107 points in 34 appearances for the club. Head coach Dai Flanagan praised Reed’s consistent improvement, stating,
“Will has had a very good season for us and really benefited from game time. His performances have improved throughout the season, and we are excited about his development curve and his continued growth.”
Reed joins several established senior squad members, including Rio Dyer, Aaron Wainwright, Taine Basham, Matthew Screech and Angus O’Brien, in committing their future to the Dragons. Flanagan expressed his enthusiasm for the club’s homegrown talent, noting,
“Will is still a young man with a bright future ahead of him and he is one of a number of exciting homegrown talents that we can build our club around.”
For Reed, the opportunity to gain valuable playing experience at the senior level has been pivotal in his growth. “The exposure to senior rugby and playing the number of games I have this season has been hugely beneficial to me,” the former Wales Under-20s cap said. “I’ve learned a great deal and I’ll take that forward now and look to kick on for Dragons in the seasons ahead.”
The news of Reed’s contract extension underscores the Dragons’ commitment to nurturing and retaining their promising young players, a strategy that will be crucial in their pursuit of success in the highly competitive world of rugby union.
