Cultural polarization has become one of the most visible areas of political division in Turkey. The discourses of “morality” and “freedom” now almost coincide with party identity. A large segment of society views investigations targeting artists as interference in their lifestyles. Nevertheless, the punishment imposed on Manifest members is polarizing society. One in three people believe that investigations targeting artists are intended to interfere with their lifestyle. Thirty-eight percent of respondents believe that the judicial control penalty imposed on Manifest members is appropriate. Forty-one percent believe that the judicial control penalty imposed on Manifest members is inappropriate.
