SUMMARY

In late 2025, incidents suspected to be food poisoning, sometimes resulting in death, caused quite a stir, particularly in Istanbul's tourist areas. According to statements made by industry representatives, this led to a decline in public confidence in the food and beverage sector, a drop in online food orders, and fewer people eating at restaurants and cafes. In this section, we examine how these recent events have affected societal practices; the change in eating and drinking habits over the years, current practices in online food ordering, and the level of trust in hygiene and food safety in eating and drinking establishments and in the food and meals sold in these establishments, across different demographic segments.

  • “I eat at places like restaurants and cafes with my friends and acquaintances.” How often?
  • Do you order FOOD online? Which websites do you shop on?
  • How much do you trust or distrust the HYGIENE AND FOOD SAFETY INSPECTIONS carried out at places such as restaurants, cafes, etc.?
  • How much do you trust or distrust the FOOD AND MEALS SOLD at places such as restaurants, cafes, etc.?
