SUMMARY

In Türkiye, 7 percent of the population receives psychological support, whether paid or free. Seventy-five percent of the population has never sought professional psychological support before. Although societal prejudices against seeing a psychologist are beginning to break down, the practice of seeking psychological support and perceptions of it remain closely linked to lifestyle, income level, and educational status.

This section examines the practices and attitudes toward seeking psychological support in Turkish society from various perspectives:

  • What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “psychology”?
  • Are you currently receiving psychological support?
  • Have you ever received psychological support? If so, from whom did you receive support?
  • What are your primary sources of information on psychology and mental health?
  • In your opinion, what are the most significant barriers preventing people in our society from seeking psychological support?
  • Which of the following negatively affect your psychological well-being?
  • Going to a psychologist is nothing to be ashamed of.
  • In our society, people who go to a psychologist are looked down upon.
