SUMMARY

With the theme “Local Politics and Urban Issues”, the report examines the factors determining the voting preferences of the Turkish society in local elections, their perceptions and attitudes towards local governments, and their thoughts on urban transformation and earthquakes. In addition, the rapid change in Turkish society in the last 15 years is revealed based on the demographic questions included in every Barometer survey. Among urban issues, disaster studies, urban transformation, the soundness of buildings, and the awareness of policies and projects related to urban transformation are covered, with a special focus on Istanbul. In addition, general political preferences and speech analyses of politicians are also analyzed. As a current issue, Alper Gezeravcı's views on space travel and investment and savings practices and instruments such as stocks and gold are also covered.

KONDA Research has been conducting a series of monthly political and social surveys called BAROMETER since 2010. In addition to the standard questions on demographic characteristics, political preferences and economic expectations that we regularly ask in each BAROMETER survey, we also ask questions to measure the public's perspective on the issues on the public agenda at the time and their perceptions and expectations in different areas. The research, which is the basis of this report, the 150th in the Barometer research series, was conducted face-to-face with 2844 people in 215 neighborhoods and villages in 100 districts, including the central districts, of 29 provinces on January 27-28, 2024.
