SUMMARY

The report, themed "The Public’s Relationship with the Tax System," explores perceptions of taxation through the dimensions of tax morality and tax justice, drawing on discussions in the literature. It examines the meaning of taxation in society, the types of taxes people are familiar with, their proportional burden on income, perceptions of whether taxes provide adequate returns, and whether the tax system is considered fair.

In addition to standard political topics such as party preference, President Erdoğan’s performance, and discourse analysis of political party leaders, the report also includes public opinions on economic conditions, satisfaction with relevant government policies, spending practices, Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek’s performance, the public savings package, and the increase in the minimum wage. Moreover, it addresses recent high-profile topics such as regulations on stray animals and sacrificial slaughter practices.

KONDA Research has been conducting a monthly series of political and social studies under the BAROMETER name since 2010. In each BAROMETER study, in addition to standard questions on demographics, political preferences, and economic expectations, additional questions are included to measure public perceptions and expectations regarding current issues. The research underlying the 155th BAROMETER report was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 2,579 individuals in their households on July 6-7, 2024, across 157 neighborhoods and villages in 93 districts of 27 provinces, including metropolitan centers.
