SUMMARY

The section examines the views of Turkish society on companies expressing their opinions on various issues, their political views and stances on issues on the public agenda, as well as the opposition's calls for boycotts and the investigations opened against artists who call for boycotts:

  • Companies should/should not express their opinions on various issues.
  • Before purchasing any product or service, I pay attention to the political views of the company or shareholder who owns that product.
  • Brands should clearly state which side they stand on issues on the public agenda.
  • The opposition's boycott calls target the Turkish economy.
  • What do you think about the investigations opened against actors and artists who call for boycotts?

The general public supports companies expressing opinions on various issues. This finding indicates that during times of crisis, society holds expectations not only of the state and civil society but also of the private sector; this expectation is higher among young people (18-33), students, white-collar workers, and individuals with a modern identity. Furthermore, the consumption habits of society have become politicized; a significant segment states that they take the political views of the company or its shareholders into account when shopping. Support for the narrative that the opposition's calls for boycotts are "targeting the economy" diverges according to political preferences; this narrative finds strong acceptance particularly among AK Party and MHP voters and supporters of the presidential system. On the other hand, a sizable minority within the AK Party and MHP electorate oppose the start of prosecution against artists.
