The section examines motivations for having children and values and practices related to family life:
Although the crude birth rate in Turkey has been steadily declining for the last decade, the motivation to have children remains significant. More than half of the 18-40 age group desires to have children, and even among young people not currently considering marriage, one-third include having children in their future plans. Generally, society views two years after marriage as the ideal time to become parents; the ideal age is seen as 27 for mothers and 29 for fathers. However, the age of mothers at birth is increasing year by year.
Practices regarding family activities vary according to income level and lifestyle. While higher income levels increase the time spent with family, lifestyle differences serve as a distinguishing factor in the types of activities undertaken.
