Information Note: Strategies in Electoral Alliances

The section provides a detailed analysis of the alliance strategies developed by political parties ahead of the May 14, 2023 general parliamentary elections:

• Participation in the Elections: A total of 24 political parties are participating in the May 14 elections, 13 of which are part of various electoral alliances.
• Electoral Districts and Distribution: The parliamentary elections will be held in 87 electoral districts across Turkey, with multiple electoral districts in major cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Bursa.
• Alliance Strategies Implemented: The different strategies implemented by parties in line with the changes introduced by the new election law are examined. These strategies include not participating in the election as a parti but running on joint lists to prevent vote loss, participating in the election with separate lists within the alliance, acting without a joint list in some electoral districts, and joint list participation methods such as the “Zipper Model” used by the CHP and the İyi Parti.
