SUMMARY

The chapter analyzes the changes in household structure over the years. Changes in the number of people in households, the number of people living alone, singles, households with children, young childless white-collar workers and the structure of high and low income households are analyzed in detail in the section:

  • How many people live in this house/household (including children)?
  • What is your marital status? Are you married?
  • Who do you live with in this house/household?
  • Do you have any children living with you in your household? If yes, can you tell me the ages of all your children?

Since 2013, an upward trend has been observed in one-person and two-person households. While the proportion of singles is increasing, the proportion of households with children is decreasing. More than half of those living alone belong to the highest income group; as the income level drops, the number of people in the household increases. 59 percent of singles living alone are male. High-income households are generally younger, more educated, and modern, whereas low-income households are more conservative, have a lower education level, and are more financially cautious. The proportion of those taking on debt is lower in low-income households, while the proportion of retirees is higher in these households.
